Perry Immigration Stance May Draw Hispanic Vote
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is defending his record on immigration.
The Texas governor has been criticized by fellow Republicans for supporting a law that gives undocumented immigrant children discounted tuition at universities in the Lone Star State.
Perry has responded to his rivals, calling them "heartless" as he talks about race and what it means to be American.
"If you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there by no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart," he said last week during a debate in Florida.
His stance may help him woo Hispanic voters, but it may also be the reason he's fallen to second place in the latest GOP poll.
Perry's drop in popularity has fueled a push for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to join the 2012 race for the White House.
But Tuesday during his speech at the Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, Calif., Christie publicly confirmed again that he's not running for president.
